The Secret to My Weight Loss ~ Hula Hooping (and walking/yoga/healthy food)

Why I love Hoop Dance

Usually when people have heard of or seen my progress, they want to know one thing - How did I do it? While I will admit that my diet hasn’t always been the healthiest, yoga and hula hooping (along with ditching my car and walking everywhere) are the “active” things that worked for me while I was starting to get in shape (and still work for me to maintain weight loss). I love hula hooping for so many reasons! One of the many reasons is that anyone can hula hoop, at any shape, size, age, or fitness level. A few other reasons I love hula hooping…

- Helps burn fat by using some of the largest muscles of the body

- Tones the whole body ~ glutes, thighs, hips, arms, and especially the abs. Heavier hoops offer additional resistance to tone muscles faster.

-Anyone can do it ~ It’s super low impact which makes it a great option for those trying to get in shape. One hour of hooping can help you burn just as many calories as a similar amount of time spent on a treadmill.

-Boosts your mood and raises confidence

-Improves coordination ~ with practice, timing and rhythm will improve.

-Circulates oxygen throughout the entire bloodstream

So now that you’re convinced… There’s a few things you should know.

- Hoop dancing is easiest and most doable with an adult size hoop that has been specifically made for adult use. These hoops will be bigger, heavier, and will be much easier to keep up than the child-sized ones.

- You can find hoops (and hoop classes) in a variety of places. Look in your local area and online to see what there is to offer. Etsy.com offers a variety of hula hoops at very affordable prices. Companies like body hoops, hoopnotica, and hoop girl also sell hoops. Shop around and find something that you love and you will delight in using.

-If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! (And maybe watch a youtube video). The first time I tried to hoop I couldn’t. Now I can hoop on my knees, chest, and waist with ease. Some people feel discouraged because they can’t get it at first. But like anything, it takes practice. Hooping helped me learn that practice makes improvement. :)

Now.. Go get a hoop, put some jams on, and get to work!!

This post has really inspired me to get buy my own hoop and start hula hooping…I’m so excited because I know I’ll enjoy this type of work-out.
